- Understand when and why healthcare professionals use a 12-lead ECG
- Prepare patients safely and ensure comfort during the procedure
- Place limb and chest leads (V1–V6) correctly for accurate recordings
- Set ECG machine controls, including paper speed, voltage, and calibration

Your skills are assessed through two different assessment components. You sit a written MCQ assessment covering ECG fundamentals, systematic interpretation, rhythm recognition, common abnormalities, ischaemic changes and red flags.
You also complete a practical, observation-based assessment in which the trainer assesses your ECG lead placement, acquisition, calibration, artefact troubleshooting and interpretation.
Learners are graded as ‘Competent’ or ‘Not Yet Competent’ and must meet the required standard in both the knowledge and practical components to receive the certificate. Any reassessment follows Lead Academy’s agreed assessment policy.
