Module 5: Understanding the administration of medicines

• In this module, you will understand the administration of medicines. Here you will learn about the 5 rights of medication administration, errors related to 5 rights of medication administration, when actions to be taken for making these errors, the 6 routes of medication administration and more.

Module 6: Methods of Administering Medication

• This module discusses the methods of administering medication. Here you will learn the methods of supplying and /or acquiring medicines in the community or in a clinical setting, the administration of medicine to patients, administration procedures and more.

Module 7: Demonstration of administering techniques

• This module discusses the different ways of administering medication such as orally, sublingual and buccal routes, inhalation etc. Here you will also learn about the advantages and disadvantages of these techniques and the unique characteristics of each medication administration route.

Module 8: Safe administration of medicines

• From this module, you will learn the principles for the safe administration of medicine, the risk assessment process, safety considerations, safety tips, the consequences of misuse of medicines and more.

Module 9: Errors in Medication Management

• This module discusses the errors that can happen in medication management. Here you will learn about the most common medical errors in the UK, errors due to incorrectly prescribed medication, errors in administering of medicine and more.

Module 10: Storing of medication

• In this module, you will learn the methods of storing different types of medicines, the things to avoid while storing medicines, and the types of storage for medicine.

Module 11: Monitoring dosage systems

• This module discusses monitoring dosage systems which is very crucial for nurses and AHPs. Here you will learn about the potential benefits of MCAs, the appropriate use of monitored dosage systems and more.

Module 12: Maintaining records & expiry dates

• In this module, you will learn about maintaining records & expiry dates of medicines. You will also learn the minimum lengths of retention of hospital records, the effects of using expired stock, the MAR chart, Key points for storage and expiry dates and more.

Module 13: Disposing of medication

• In this module, you will learn about the methods of disposing of medication. Here you will also learn various types of waste, ways to reduce waste, why is safe disposal of medication important, when should you dispose of waste medication and more.

Module 14: Practical Exercise

• In this module, you will engage in various practical exercises related to medication management. Here you will learn to calculate IV flow rate, the formula for calculating millilitres per hour (ml/hour), the formula for calculating drops per minute (gtts/min), how to regulate IV fluids, flow-control devices, general nursing considerations and more.

Module 15: Conclusion

• This concluding module revisits the core principles and key learning points of the course. Here you will reflect on your learning journey, highlighting the most pivotal concepts and their relevance in real life.
