The AQA GCSE Chemistry Qualification consists of two paper-based assessments and a practical assessment.

Paper 1

  • Topic: Atomic structure and the periodic table, bonding, structure, and the properties of matter, quantitative chemistry, chemical changes; and energy changes.
  • Exam duration: 1 Hour 45 minutes written exam
  • Marks: 100
  • Weight: 50% of GCSE
  • Question type: multiple choice, structured, closed short answer and open response

Paper 2

  • Topic: The rate and extent of chemical change, organic chemistry; chemical analysis, the chemistry of the atmosphere; and using resources
  • Exam duration: 1 Hour 45 minutes written exam
  • Marks: 100
  • Weight: 50% of GCSE
  • Question type: multiple choice, structured, closed short answer and open response

Practical Assessment

The knowledge and comprehension that students have acquired from completing a variety of practical activities and demonstrations offered in this course will be tested in the written exam questions.

At least 15% of the qualification’s overall marks will come from these questions.

Most of these questions will additionally concentrate on students’ capacity for independent research and the successful application of their knowledge in real-world scenarios.

Important: You need to submit the practical logbook (the list of practicals covered by you according to the awarding body) signed off both by you and the tutor within 15th February 2024. Also, you must need to submit the practical statement for the individual for each science discipline. Just make a note on each submitted practical statement clarifying which science discipline the form relates to), and evidence (for each science discipline) that the required practicals have been completed sent to us along with the completed statement. You must need to submit your tutor’s CV, Degree Certificate, Teaching Certificate and the DBS along with the mentioned documents.
