Today, we will learn how to say Lesbian in sign language. In case you don’t know, the word refers to a gay woman or a homosexual woman.

Although the term varies throughout sign languages, we’ll focus on British Sign Language (BSL) today.

So let’s get this discussion started.

Don’t be concerned if it travels too fast for you. Each stage will be discussed in further depth below.

Before we begin, keep in mind that BSL is a two-handed sign language. That suggests you’ll be using both hands to communicate.

There are signs where we use our dominant hand for one movement and our non-dominant hand for assisting gestures. Never swap your dominant hand when signing. This will confuse the individual with whom you’re interacting.

Do the following now.

Man sitting with a normal posture in front of a white wall

1. Start with a normal posture.

2. Lift your left hand up to your chest.

3. Open up the palm of your left hand with all your fingers spread out. Your palm will essentially be facing up towards the sky.

4. Now place your right hand over your left hand’s palm, just like in the picture above.

5. While doing this, all the fingers from your middle finger to your pinky will be in a fist. The index finger will be pointing towards the one you’re signing to. Your thumb will be pointing upwards, sort of like a “thumbs up” gesture. In short, your right hand will look like a ‘pistol’ pointed at the person you’re communicating with.

6. Say the word ‘lesbian’ as you’re signing it.

So, that’s how we sign Lesbian in British Sign Language. Check that the person with whom you are conversing can plainly see you. If the signer’s actions are not evident, anybody might readily misread the message. You must regularly practice the sign if you want to learn it; otherwise, you risk forgetting it over time. Keep a beautiful smile on your face as well. We can connect more successfully with people when we smile.
